2019 Party Trends

Updated: Jan 19, 2019

Looking back on the party trends of 2018 it’s safe to say the unicorn takes the cake – literally, those horn cakes and shimmery glitter were the things of little girls’ dreams. No matter if you are hosting a little one’s birthday, a wedding shower for your BFF, or you just need a good reason to fiesta, you are going to want to host a Pinterest-worthy party and it all starts with a chic and adorable theme.

Here’s what we can expect for party trends in 2019:

Gender reveal parties were huge in 2018 which we don’t see changing, and although the actual reveal is going to yield a pink or blue result (or both), the party doesn’t have to be centered around a pink vs blue showdown. We anticipate seeing more gender-neutral themed parties this year, check out some inspiration from our “What Will It Bee” or “Modern Jungle” themed parties. As for the reveal, we will only see more creative ideas to reveal the baby’s gender in 2019, as people look for a unique surprise.

A new spin on the adorable rustic woodland theme, making it a bit more magical. With adorable red toadstools, lots of moss, fairies, glitter and beautiful butterflies. Who knows maybe even a unicorn will show up for a resurgence? With endless possibilities on this cross between rustic and fairy tail, this is sure to be a popular trend for girls.

Llamas and alpacas are so in right now, although pretty sure most people interchange the two. I grew up on a farm in Saanichton, BC with eight llamas and four alpacas so my love for these beauties is deep. In fact I even owned my own llama named Winchester { no joke, ask my Mom }. Regardless, both animals are quirky, cute, and compliment parties with bright colours, cactuses or any ol’ reason to fiesta.

With a serious lineup of recreated Disney favourites and sequels to be released in 2019, we expect a bunch of spins on these classic tales. Aladdin, Lion King, Dumbo, Star Wars and Marvel Superhero parties are all popular themes that kids and adults can get behind, and revisit those nostalgic vibes. Woody and Buzz are back with Toy Story 4 this year, and you know Elsa is going to make a comeback with the release of Frozen 2, so que the snowflakes.

This party staple is not going anywhere. The balloon garland trend was strong in 2018, but with their versatility to adapt to any theme, these statement pieces are a party must, likely even a classic for the foreseeable future. The giant orb balloons were also popular for parties and weddings, and are customizable with vinyl decals, tassels and floral tails. In addition, you are sure to see some creativity with letter balloons used to spell out numbers, fun-shaped balloon installations and balloons popping into décor in surprising new ways.

Pinterest 100 tells all, and they are saying number and monogram shaped cakes are already being searched and pinned by party planners and parents. This is something I can get behind, since as soon as you enter double digits you get two cakes { just saying }.

The possibilities are endless with acrylic décor (aka plastic), previously we have seen a lot of it being incorporated into weddings with it’s minimal and chic look. It can be used for signage, seating charts, guest favours, stir sticks, menus and place cards, with gorgeous calligraphy or a modern font. But what’s really fun is putting florals, balloons or confetti inside to add a new unique twist.

This feminine, vibrant and sassy colour was named Pantone colour of the year and we are so on board. This versatile colour can be used for beachy and tropical vibes, or toned down with mint for an airy high-tea or even paired with a contrasting navy for a bold pallet.

We can't wait to party on with these hot trends for 2019!
